West Cork Map West Cork is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with its wild and unspoilt country side, sheltered coves, and a myriad of islands dotted along the meandering coastline. The many colourful villages blend easily with nature and reflect the vibrant and individual character of its people.

The main villages are Schull, Ballydehob, Bantry, Baltimore & Skibbereen. The most popular in recent years is the village of Schull, which lies at the foot of Mt. Gabriel (1339ft). This attractive and colourful town is an internationally known sailing centre, busy fishing harbour, and charming crafts centre.

Schull is very popular with visiting yachtsmen. The Schull Harbour Regatta, started  in 1884, is now a major annual event. There is also the Fastnet International Schools Regatta, held in early July, which attracts young sailors from all over Europe.

Despite its growing popularity, West Cork is still ones of Europe's best kept secrets, with something to offer everyone - from archaeology to sailing, and deep-sea angling to pony trekking. Diving trips can also be arranged that will take you to some spectacular underwater wrecks.

When you are done with open-air pursuits, you can always browse through the many pottery, art and knitwear shops which are a regular feature in most villages. Then its off to the pub or bistros for lunch, where the local seafood, breads and cheeses are a must for any visitor who wishes to experience West Cork through the tastebuds. This is further complimented by an extensive and varied selection of restaurants in the area offering excellent cuisine.

As for nightlife, many pubs offer traditional folk music, with villages organising summer festivals to celebrate as only the Irish can. In short there is no excuse not to have a good time!
