4 Possible Fault Locations

The BT Telephone Network map shown below in fig. 6 shows 5 locations.

Explanation of graphics
fig. 6 - Simplified Map of the BT Telephone Network

The map shows the 5 general areas where a fault may be located :-

  1. Diagnostic Test Centre
This is not an actual location for the fault, rather it indicates that BT are still carrying out tests to determine the most probable location of the fault
  2. Telephone Exchange
Tests indicate the fault is in cabling or equipment within the BT Telephone Exchange
  3. BT's Network
Tests indicate that the fault is in cabling or equipment between the BT Telephone Exchange and the customer's property
  4. Close To Customer's Property
Tests indicate the fault is in cabling or equipment close to the customer's property. This may include in some cases access to the customer's property to fix the fault.
  5. Customer's Property
Tests indicate the fault is in cabling or equipment on the customer's property, the engineer will need to gain access to the property to fix the fault

Fault locations are shown by hi-lighting the location on the BT Telephone Network map. An example of a fault within the BT Telephone Exchange is shown in fig. 7 below.
